September 9, 2003 - A lot has happened in the
last three months as you can see from the pictures. All of this is even
after having to wait 5 weeks for the ground to dry out. PRAISE TO THE LORD
WHO PROVIDES! Soon after we began preparing the site, we found out that
our dirt was "no good." It was suggested that we would have to remove over
two feet deep of dirt from across the whole project with an unexpected
price tag of $60,000. We stopped. We prayed. The rain lessened. The dirt
dried out and passed inspection. We began again! One more obstacle
overcome by the power of God!

Beginning May 26, 2003 the grading
contractors and Murray Construction of Monroe moved onto our site. Land
was cleared, ground was scraped, and the water and electrical service
changed. We are well into preparing the ground for the foundation.

On May 18, 2003, the congregation gathered to
worship God and hear a challenging message from Pastor Lee. In celebration
following the last hymn, we moved outside and gave each family an
opportunity to "get dirty" by turning over some dirt with a shovel.
Each family also dumped some dirt from their home as
a sign of unity and support for the Our Legacy, God's Glory Project.
Flowers in pots decorated and planted by the youth and children of
Bethlehem were given to every family as a reminder of the growth we hope
God will bring through this great work.

On March 30, 2003, the congregation heard a
report from the Long Range Planning Committee about their work with the
Adam's Group Architects and Murray Construction company. New elevations
and a project budget were presented to the congregation.
Following the Presentation, the Congregation voted
to move ahead with the "Our Legacy, God's Glory" Project
Members and Friends of Bethlehem Church have pledged over
$625,900
toward the Our Legacy, God's Glory campaign. We have already received over
53.5% of that total.

We here at the Bethlehem Presbyterian Church are about to
embark on a grand journey with God. The success of the "Our Legacy,
God's Glory" capital stewardship campaign will make it possible for
us to continue our advancement as a church growing to meet the needs of
the people in response to God's leading.
For our church to continue to be faithful to the ministry entrusted to
us - knowing Christ and making Christ known - we must act now to
accomplish the vision God has given to us. The challenge of our ministry is awesome, yet God is
leading us forward. The "Our Legacy, God's Glory" capital stewardship campaign
is crucial for us to move forward in the will of God. |
